Two Potential Trades that would Send Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks

Derrick Rose appears destined to no longer step on the court as a member of the Detroit Pistons. According to Shams Charania and James Edwards III of The Athletic, Detroit has engaged in trade discussions with the New York Knicks for the former MVP point guard.

Rose has had a successful tenure in Detroit. He is proven that he is a good player and can help a team win games. He would help bolster a point guard for the Knicks that outside of rookie Immanuel Quickley, leaves room for improvement.
A trade between the two teams could go through at any moment, so I’m not going to waste any time. Here is what a potential trade involving the Pistons and Knicks surrounded around Derrick Rose could look like.
Trade Idea 1:
NYK Receives: Derrick Rose
DET Receives: Frank Ntilikina, DET 2021 2nd Round Pick

According to Ian Begley of SNYtv, one name that has been brought up in trade discussions between the two teams is French point guard Frank Ntilikina. Through his first three seasons, the 22-year old point guard has not lived up to the potential that New York had hoped for when drafting him with the 8th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Now in his fourth season, behind Quickley and Elfrid Payton in the depth chart, a change of scenery seems necessary if Ntilikina were ever to resurrect his career. Detroit would provide an opportunity for him to do just that. With Rose on the move, rookie point guard Killian Hayes on the mend, and Saben Lee not yet entrusted to handle consistent minutes, Ntilikina could share the point guard duties with Delon Wright.
Although he has struggled to find a footing on the offensive end, Ntilikina has become a proven defender, who uses his long arms, strong frame, and astute reaction timing to stymie opposing guards. While he likely never reach the potential many had hoped he would when he entered the league back in 2017, Ntilikina would have one final opportunity to prove himself if he were dealt to the Pistons.
Detroit would also have their 2021 2nd round pick returned to them in this trade, which they originally dealt to the Los Angeles Clippers. The Pistons currently have the worst record in the league, and this pick will likely end up being in the low 30s come draft night.
In summary, the Troy Weaver gets to take a flier on a young point guard that hasn’t panned out while recovering an asset worth coveting, while the Knicks add a veteran point guard to bolster their bench and assist them in their playoff push.
Trade Idea 2:
NYK Receives: Derrick Rose
DET Receives: Dennis Smith Jr, CHA 2021 2nd Round Pick

If the Knicks are unwilling to send Detroit their original second-round pick back, perhaps Charlotte'S 2nd round pick, which New York owns, would suffice for Troy Weaver. Detroit currently owns their own first-round pick as well as Toronto’s second-round pick for the upcoming draft, but we know how much Weaver likes to have multiple swings come draft night.
Dennis Smith Jr. has appeared in just three games for the Knicks this season, and his NBA future doesn’t look so promising. However, he’s in a similar situation as Ntilikina, and again, Detroit would be a destination in which Smith could attempt to jumpstart his career. Smith has been pegged in the past for having some off the court issues though, which could draw distaste from Weaver, who has made it clear that he is targeting high character players to build his team with.
It is reported that other teams are interested in trading for Rose, such as the Los Angeles Clippers. However, the attention has seemingly turned towards the Knicks and finding a way to reunite Rose and head coach Tom Thibodeau.
