Saddiq Bey Named Eastern Conference Player of the Week, Second Piston Rookie in History to Win Award

Detroit Pistons rookie forward Saddiq Bey was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the week of February 8th-14th, the NBA announced on Monday afternoon. Bey is the second rookie in franchise history to obtain this award, following in the footsteps of swingman Kelly Tripucka, who won the award in March of 1982.

Through four games throughout the week, highlighted by a 30-point, 12-rebound performance in a win against the Boston Celtics, Bey helped Detroit to a 3-1 record. He averaged 17.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. His 3-point shooting was a massive factor in his success, as the rookie shot 69.6% from beyond the arc, connecting on 16-23 3FG. He also shot 71.4% from the field overall.

Bey's big performance against Boston were career-highs in points and rebounds in his young career. He shot a perfect 7-7 from the 3-point line in the win. He is the only rookie in league history to make seven 3-pointers in a game without a single miss.

Bey stepped into the starting lineup for Detroit in their final game of the week against the New Orleans Pelicans. He finished the game with 16 points, six assists, four rebounds, and three steals. He shot 4-8 from beyond the arc.
