A pair of key free agents for the Detroit Pistons have signed away in the first day of free agency.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Smith has agreed to sign a two-year deal worth $12 million with the Washington Wizards.

Smith's decision to sign elsewhere comes in the wake of the Pistons and Derrick Rose coming to terms on a two-year contract, which subsequently replaced Smith's roster spot.
Smith spent three seasons with Detroit, mainly as their backup point guard, but he served valiantly as their starting when Reggie Jackson was dealing with his injuries issues in the first two years of Smith's contract.
Detroit's wing free agent, Wayne Ellington, also signed elsewhere, inking a two-year deal with the New York Knicks.

Detroit was likely interested in bringing Ellington back, but at $8 million a year, his price was too high.
He signed with Detroit before the second half of the season began last year and became one of their starting wings. But after the additions of Tony Snell and Sekou Doumbouya, the need for Ellington lowered.
