REPORT: Tony Snell to Opt Into His $12.2 Million Player Option for 2020-2021 Season

According to James Edwards III of The Athletic, forward Tony Snell is picking up his $12.2 million player option for the 2020-2021 season.

This isn't an unanticipated move by Snell, as the money option was worth more than he would have received on the open market had he declined the option and entered free agency as an unrestricted free agent.

The 29-year-old forward started 57 of the 59 games he appeared in last season for the Pistons. He averaged eight points, 2.2 assists, and 1.9 rebounds per game. He shot 40.2% from the 3-point line.

Snell will likely serve in a contributing role next season for the Pistons, but whether he starts or comes off of the bench remains to be seen. With Luke Kennard, Sekou Doumbouya, and Svi Mykhailiuk, as well as potentially the No. 7 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Pistons could have plenty of youth that will occupy minutes on the wing.
