REPORT: "There's Optimism" Reggie Jackson Could Return From Back Injury in Coming Weeks

The Detroit Pistons have been without starting point guard Reggie Jackson for nearly three months. Sidelined by a back injury, Jackson has been adequately replaced by the rejuvenated Derrick Rose and the improving Bruce Brown. Both of these players have vastly different playstyles compared to Jackson, and the team's offense has reflected that this season.

However, after missing nearly half the season, the Pistons may finally be able to bolster their point guard depth. There's a possibility that Jackson could return in a matter of weeks, according to Rod Beard of the Detroit News:

" After visiting with a back specialist in Los Angeles last week, there’s optimism that Jackson could return to the lineup in the next couple of weeks, a welcome addition to a depleted position on the roster. "

With both Rose and Brown outperforming expectations, it will be interesting to see how Jackson works his way back into the offense. Bruce Brown's defense and the fact that he has started most games this season should secure him the starting nod still once Jackson returns. However, Dwane Casey will likely leave the position up for grabs if the veteran floor general shows signs of life.

Jackson's return shouldn't change the direction of the team, but if he proves he can still perform, he can be a valuable contributor or a possible trade piece as an expiring contract.
