REPORT: Stephen Silas Joins Pistons Coaching Staff as Top Assistant
Former Houston Rockets head coach Stephen Silas will reportedly be joining Pistons head coach Monty Williams as Detroit's top assistant according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Silas had previously been an assistant coach with the Dallas Mavericks, Charlotte Hornets, and Golden State Warriors.
Silas was most recently the head coach in Houston, a similarly young organization like Detroit attempting to find its foot again in the league. The 49-year-old Silas went 59-177 in three seasons with the Rockets. Houston fired Silas after this season and ended up hiring Ime Udoka shortly thereafter.
The Pistons made the biggest splash of the NBA offseason so far by giving Williams the largest contract for a head coach in NBA history, a massive six-year, $78.5 million deal. The addition of Silas, who has experience working with young players and lottery draft picks, is perhaps his first step in returning to an NBA sideline as a head coach. Getting some additional experience under a Coach of the Year winner in Williams is not a bad place to be in.
