Jackson has missed the first 21 games for the Pistons this season after undergoing treatment on his knee and thumb. Jackson was expected to miss the first 10-20 games of the season.
With Jackson being out for the first month or so of the season it was expected that the Pistons would crumble and struggle without him. With Ish Smith and Beno Udrih manning the point guard play while Jackson has been out, the Pistons sit above .500, at 11-10 on the season. They sit in 8th place in the Eastern Conference but are only 1.5 games out of third place.
Smith has been an admirable replacement with Jackson out. He is averaging 10.8 points and 6.4 assists per game this year. Udrih is averaging seven points and 3.5 assists per game.
Jackson averaged 18.8 points and 6.2 assists per game last season. He will start at the point guard spot tonight, in a limited role.
Detroit has been waiting for Jackson to return. They have survived in his absence, but with him back they plan to begin their playoff push.
