Report: Pistons Working to Schedule Meeting with Al Horford
Earlier today, the Detroit Pistons traded Jodie Meeks to the Orlando Magic. The move freed detroit of about $6 million in cap space, giving them around $21 million in cap space total.
With that money, they will reportedly pursue Atlanta Hawks' free agent, Al Horford.
ESPN's Zach Lowe:
The Hawks are reluctant to offer Horford the fifth year only they can dangle, and if they hold firm, they are at grave risk of losing him for nothing, per league sources. (Watch out for the Pistons on Horford; with Wednesday's trade of Meeks, they are one tiny move away from being able to fit his max. They are working to schedule a meeting with Horford over the first 48 hours of free agency, sources say. Horford's fit alongside Andre Drummond is another question entirely.)
Reports surfaced last week that Detroit would attempt to sign Horford in free agency.
Stan Van Gundy said that Detroit wanted to add another big man to the roster and he is swinging for theĀ fences with Horford.
Horford averaged 15.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per game last season in Atlanta. He will likely demand close if not a max contract in this year's free agency.
