Report: Pistons Waive Three Players
The Detroit busy had a very busy Saturday. Detroit went into the day with 17 players on their roster. Early in the day, that number jumped to 18 when they signed Mamadou N'Diaye, a 7'6" center. Then came the roster cuts.
The Pistons had already waived a player before Saturday. They waived Nikola Jovanovic on Monday.
Detroit quickly waived N'Diaye. The move was simply to secure his D-League rights. N'Diaye will play with the Grand Rapids Drive this season in the NBA D-League.

Detroit also parted ways with guard Trey Freeman. Freeman came into camp on a non-guaranteed deal. He was always a long shot to make the roster. He appeared in one preseason game with the Pistons, where he scored a point and assisted on two shots in Detroit's 97-76 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. Freeman, like N'Diaye will play in the D-League with the Drive.
Then came the tough decision. Stan Van Gundy and Jeff Bower needed to make a decision on the third string point guard situation. The battle was steady throughout the preseason, with neither player able to take the statistical advantage.

The Pistons decided to keep Ray McCallum. They waived Lorenzo Brown, as previously reported, paving the way for Ray McCallum to keep the final roster spot on the Pistons.

Myself, Noah Lofman, and Pistons beat writer for MLive, Aaron McMann, all agreed on a recent podcast that Brown should be the guy they keep.

The Pistons would love to keep Brown near. They hold is returning player rights in the D-League, but Brown first has to clear waivers for that to even be a possibility. Brown could also choose to sign with an overseas team. Brown is very close to securing an NBA deal. He clearly belongs in the NBA. With that being said, it seems likely he remains with the Grand Rapids Drive.

Detroit's roster now stands at 15. Their team is set for the upcoming season barring another move by Van Gundy.
