REPORT: Pistons Waive R.J. Hampton
The Detroit Pistons have waived guard R.J. Hampton, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Hampton appeared in 21 games with the Pistons, averaging 7.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in 18.5 minutes per game. The 21-year old guard signed with Detroit in late February after being waived by the Orlando Magic.
The 6’4 guard was the 24th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. If Hampton clears waivers, he will become an unrestricted free agent.
Hampton was in attendance at the introductory press conference for the organization’s new head coach, Monty Williams, just a few weeks ago. He was one of the few Pistons to reportedly reach out to incoming rookie Ausar Thompson after he was drafted by Detroit on Thursday.
Hampton’s contact was non-guaranteed for this upcoming season. The Pistons had until Thursday, July 6th to guarantee his contract.
