REPORT: Pistons Trade Delon Wright to Kings for Cory Joseph, Two Second-Round Picks
With less than 15 hours until this season's trade deadline, the first notable move has finally happened. The Detroit Pistons are sending guard Delon Wright to the Sacramento Kings for guard Cory Joseph and two second-round picks, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The Pistons exchange one veteran guard for another as they add Cory Joseph, 29, who has been a steady backup presence to De'Aaron Fox over the past two seasons. In 43 games this season, Joseph has averaged 6.7 points and 2.4 assists, and will likely see a chunk of Wright's minutes. The main purpose of moving Wright, however, was to add assets and free up minutes for Detroit's young guards.
The Kings, meanwhile, are sending the Los Angeles Lakers' 2021 second-rounder and their own 2024 second to add Delon Wright, 28, who has been a solid starting point guard in his half season with Detroit. Sacramento sits at 18-25 and 13th in the Western Conference, so giving up assets for a slight upgrade at backup point guard is an interesting decision. Wright ends his productive tenure in Detroit averaging 10.5 points, 5.1 assists, and 4.6 rebounds.
