Report: Pistons to Match Any Offer Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Receives

The Detroit Pistons will match any offer Kentavious Caldwell-Pope receives free agency in July this offseason, according to Vincent Ellis of the Detroit Free Press. Caldwell-Pope will become a restricted free agent once free agency begins.

The Pistons are prepared to match any offer sheet he receives, even if it produced a maximum contract, according to multiple persons with firsthand knowledge of the franchise’s thinking.

One person told the Free Press: “We can’t lose him.” Caldwell-Pope averaged 13.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. He also shot a career-high 35 percent from the three-point line and was shooting over 40 percent from deep before ending the season in a shooting slump.

KCP is just 24 years old. Reports from earlier in the season have said that Caldwell-Pope could demand $20 million annually, but after an impressive season, it would be to few's surprise if he is offered a max contract by a team such as the Philadelphia 76ers or Brooklyn Nets.
