Fischer writes:
Another Pistons player league personnel are monitoring is third-year forward Saddiq Bey. The Villanova product was recently demoted from the starting lineup before bouncing right back into Dwane Casey’s opening unit. Bey will become extension-eligible this summer and has had a noticeable drop in production. Detroit has taken early calls on Bey from inquiring teams, sources said, a change in behavior from recent trade windows. But it seems the Pistons are intent on further evaluating Bey before truly entertaining his trade market.
The report comes as little surprise - the Pistons fear Cade Cunningham may have to undergo season-ending surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left shin - and the likes of Bojan Bogdanovic, Alec Burks, and Nerlens Noel have already been subjects of numerous trade reports. Detroit is considering making significant moves to its roster now that the franchise may be without its foundational piece for the rest of the 2022-23 season.
Bey has had a shaky start to the season - a start rough enough to have him moved out of the starting lineup - averaging 14.7 points on 40.8/29/91.8 shooting splits.
As Fischer notes at the end of his report, the team isn't earnestly attempting to move him - they want to. evaluate the 23-year-old wing strenuously before making any further decisions. There is still plenty of time for Detroit to do just that - Bey is under contract this season and next, before becoming a restricted free agent the summer before the 2024-25 season.
There are no current details on what teams have inquired with Detroit on Bey, or how significant of a package would be required to pry him from the organization.
Bey has missed Detroit's last two games with an ankle injury. The team is hopeful he will return shortly after the end of the Pistons' current west coast road trip.
