REPORT: Pistons Sign Justin Patton

The Detroit Pistons have signed center Justin Patton, the team announced earlier today. Patton appeared in five games with the Oklahoma City Thunder this season. He averaged 1.8 points and one rebound per game.

This is the first roster move that new general manager Troy Weaver has seemingly made since being introduced as the team's GM earlier this week. It may or may not be a coincidence that Patton, a former Thunder player, was the first player Weaver signed, after leaving Oklahoma City after ten seasons with the franchise.

Patton, 23, was the 16th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls. He has appeared in just nine total games between three teams in three seasons. He's had two foot surgeries so far throughout his NBA career, keeping him off the floor, and diminishing his value immensely.

The Pistons are giving Patton a chance to perhaps compete for a roster spot next season at a very cheap price. With John Henson and likely Thon Maker set to become free agents, the Pistons do need to find another big man to build their depth up front.
