The deal is for one year Haynes reports. It is likely that this is mainly a training camp deal so that Detroit can acquire Willis' D-League rights. Assuming Detroit was to waive Willis before the season began, and he decided to go the D-League, he would play for the Grand Rapids Drive.
The former Kentucky big man played for Detroit in the Orlando Summer League and was pretty impressive. He averaged 3.5 points and two rebounds in just 11.1 minutes per game. While the stats will not jump out at you, he was effective when on the court and showcased a solid shooting touch.
Last year at Kentucky, he averaged seven points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He also shot 37.7 percent from the three-point line on over three attempts per game.
Willis is 22 years old and 6'9". He primarily plays power forward.
