Burks will make $10.5 million throughout the 2023-24 season. Livers will make $1.8 million. The decision to guarantee these contracts leaves Detroit with a projected $30 million to work with in free agency - which begins later this week.
Burks averaged 12.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 51 games for the Pistons last season, his first year with the team. Detroit acquired Burks last offseason alongside Nerlens Noel in a trade with the New York Knicks. The 31-year-old guard played a vital role off the bench this past season and was one of the team's most consistent outside shooters and overall scoring threats. He figures to command a similarly significant bench role next season.
Livers struggled to stay healthy last year, missing 30 games throughout the course of the season, and never found his footing despite Detroit's belief in his long-term fit as a part of the organization's core. He averaged 6.7 points on 36.5% 3PT shooting in 23 minutes per game. Although Livers hasn't been able to maintain a clean bill of health throughout his first two years in the league, his cheap contract option made the decision to pick it up a no-brainer for the Pistons. The hope is that he can provide a two-way punch off Detroit's bench at either forward position.
