The Detroit Pistons will have ample cap space to work with this offseason as the team enters a new phase; a rebuild. They're reportedly looking to use at least some of that money on a combo forward, with recent reports indicating the franchise was interested in Denver Nuggets' forward Jerami Grant. Now, another name has surfaced in a report regarding a forward that the Pistons are expected to be interested in, along with multiple other teams.
Derrick Jones Jr. of the Miami Heat is expected to be pursued by the Pistons, Chicago Bulls, and Atlanta Hawks, among other teams, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
Detroit, Chicago and Atlanta are among the teams expected to have interest in Jones, according to a source. He likely will generate some interest on the open market because of his athleticism, defensive acumen, youth (23) and the belief that he hasn’t reached his ceiling offensively.
Jones averaged 8.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game last season with the Heat while being named the NBA slam dunk champion at All-Star Weekend. He is known more for his defensive prowess rather than his capabilities on the offensive side of the floor, where he struggles to shoot and isn't any sort of creator.

Jones fell out of Miami's rotation as they progressed all the way to the NBA Finals, as other wings such as Jae Crowder and Andre Iguodala played over him.
The 23-year old forward is 6'6" and has played four seasons in the league. He went undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft out of UNLV.
