REPORT: Pistons, Knicks Engaged in Trade Talks for Derrick Rose, Other Teams Interested

The Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks have engaged in trade talks surrounding Pistons' guard Derrick Rose, according to Shams Charania and James Edwards III of The Athletic.

The New York Knicks are engaged in active talks to acquire the Pistons guard, a move that would reunite the former league MVP with head coach Tom Thibodeau, sources tell The Athletic.

Rose is out tonight for the Pistons in their game against the Los Angeles Lakers. Dwane Casey cited Rose's absence as "personal reasons." He has not appeared in a game since January 30th.

Charania and Edwards report that the two sides have agreed that it would be best for one another to separate, citing Detroit's desire to increase the roles of younger players on their team, and Rose's ability to help a contending team win.

With young point guards in Killian Hayes and Saben Lee on the roster, a move of this magnitude could make sense for Detroit.

It is unclear what a potential return for Rose currently looks like.

Rose has averaged 14.2 points and 4.2 assists per game with Detroit this season. He is in the final season of a two-year deal he signed with the Pistons in July of 2019.
