REPORT: Pistons Hire Milwaukee Executive David Mincberg as Assistant General Manager

The Detroit Pistons have recouped one assistant general manager after two departed from the organization earlier this offseason. Detroit has hired David Mincberg, the Bucks’ VP of Basketball Strategy, as an assistant general manager, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1280557918576939009 This move follows after the departures of Malik Rose and most recently Pat Garrity from Detroit's front office. Mincberg is the first front-office hire of the new general manager, Troy Weaver. Mincberg previously worked with Ed Stefanski, the senior advisor to Tom Gores, with the Memphis Grizzlies from 2014 to 2017, when Mincberg joined the Milwaukee organization. From Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press:
Despite Stefanski and Mincberg being former co-workers with the Grizzlies, Weaver is the primary reason why Mincberg is joining the Pistons, per league sources. Weaver and Mincberg, both from Washington, D.C., have a longstanding relationship.
Mincberg sees Weaver as a mentor figure, and the strength of their relationship, as well as confidence in Weaver's ability to build and organize a team, encouraged Mincberg to leave a stable situation in Milwaukee for Detroit when Weaver reached out to him, per sources.
The upcoming offseason will be a pivotal one for Detroit. They will have one of the top picks in the NBA Draft with an opportunity to select one of the big names available such as LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards, or Killian Hayes. Christian Wood, who broke out with Detroit this year as one of the top players on the team, will be an unrestricted free agent and should be atop the front office's priorities. Shooting guard Luke Kennard will also become extension eligible. The team also has an exorbant amount of cap space to work with for the first time in a while.
