REPORT: Pistons Eyeing Seth Curry in Free Agency

The Detroit Pistons are going to have to be tactical with their pocket book this offseason to upgrade a playoff roster. Amongst the priorities, given their season-long deficiencies, are point guard, capable wings, and perimeter shooting (if you do not want to hear me, check out the Palace of Pistons Podcast). Detroit could solve one of those voids if they get their wish this offseason: Seth Curry.

James Edwards III of The Athletic reports that the Pistons have Curry on their target list this offseason. The 29-year-old guard, who will undoubtedly have a market in the shooting-heavy NBA, fits the bill for Detroit. But does he make sense for a team that needs immediate substantial upgrades to win a playoff game, let alone a series?

Yeah, the brother of other-worldly sharpshooter Steph Curry is a solid player! He shot 45.6% from deep in the regular season and (through nine games) 48.1% from three in the playoffs. He is taking just under four shots from behind the arc per game in 18.9 minutes per game. Curry has an ability to finish near the rim too, so he is not limited to shooting from deep.

His fit on the roster would be more challenging, but a player as talented and with the skillset he possesses makes things easier. Curry can play both guard positions, and has at the NBA level. Given that Ish Smith is a free agent and likely will not be back, Curry could slide in at backup point guard. Shooting guard is perhaps a little more crowded, but it is hard to suppress someone who is capable of shooting the rock like Seth Curry.

The biggest barrier will be money. Can the Pistons lure him to the Motor City? Will they have to overpay to make it happen? Questions we will have the answers to in the coming months.
