REPORT: Pistons Expected to Re-Sign Cory Joseph
The Detroit Pistons are expected to sign free agent point guard Cory Joseph to a new contract, after waiving the veteran guard over the weeked, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.
Joseph was waived on Saturday by Detroit, along with Tyler Cook and Deivdias Sirvydis. The move saved Detroit about $10 million in cap space, as Joseph was only guaranteed $2.6 of the $12 million remaining on his contract had he been waived by the end of July.
Joseph was acquired by Detroit during last season in a trade with the Sacramento Kings. He averaged 12 points, 5.5 assists, and 3.2 rebounds in 19 games with Detroit.
The Pistons current point guard depth consists of second year prospects Killian Hayes and Saben Lee, along with Cade Cunningham, who has the ability to play as a lead guard or on the wing.
The 10-year veteran will turn 30 years old later this month. It is currently unclear what the terms of his expected return to Detroit are.
The 2021 NBA Free Agency period opens Monday, August 2nd at 6:00 p.m. ET.
