REPORT: Pistons, DeAndre Jordan Agree to Buyout
In a widely-anticipated move, the Detroit Pistons and center DeAndre Jordan reportedly agreed to a buyout according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. The move makes the 33-year-old big a free agent and free to sign with any team, which is reportedly the Los Angeles Lakers according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Detroit moved Sekou Doumbouya and Jahlil Okafor yesterday to help the Nets facilitate the exit of Jordan, who had limited effectiveness on the court. Brooklyn sent cast and four 2nd-round draft picks to the Pistons as a thank you for taking on Jordan and taking on the money to buy him out. The Nets saved $47 million between salary cap space and luxury taxes by moving Jordan, so it is a clear net win for the franchise as they prepare to make a championship push this upcomign season.
Brooklyn made a flurry of other moves, including re-signing LaMarcus Aldridge and waiving Alize Johnson.
The Pistons recieved nearly $6 million from the Nets, which will help offset the money owed to Jordan through the buyout.
