Stefanski, who was hired by Tom Gores as a senior advisor to the franchise in 2018, will work with Arn Tellem, the Vice Chairman of Palace Sports, throughout the process of finding a general manager.
From Wojnarowski's report:
The new GM will work closely with Stefanski and coach Dwane Casey on personnel matters.
Stefanski has made numerous key decisions as the showrunner of the Detroit Pistons throughout his first two years on the job, with the most recent moves being to trade franchise center Andre Drummond the Cleveland Cavaliers and to buyout starting point guard, Reggie Jackson.
Stefanski has served as the de-facto general manager since being hired by Gores. There have been no previous rumblings that Detroit was in the market to hire a general manager nor that Gores was displeased with Stefanski's work.
We will update the website with more information as it is announced.
