Smith is a 6'0 speedy point guard. At, 27, Smith is still in the prime of his career. Last season Smith averaged 14.7 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds per game with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Detroit was desperate for a backup point guard after dealing with Steve Blake last season, and they have secured themselves with a good backup option. He is a good passer, and can take the ball to the basket. The biggest knock on Smith is three-point shooting. He shot 33% from three last year in Philly.
The money involved in the deal has not been reported.
