REPORT: Pistons and Hawks Engaged in Trade Talks Involving Andre Drummond
The Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons are reportedly discussing a deal involving center Andre Drummond according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Woj adds that while no deal is imminent, Detroit has talked to several other teams about Drummond.
Drummond as a $28 million player option for next year, but Woj says that is is "unlikely" he will exercise that. That means the Pistons would risk losing their All-Star caliber center for nothing, a scenario the organization certainly does not want to happen.
In order to match salaries, the Hawks would have to send out a big contract. One such would be Chandler Parsons, as noted by James Edwards III of The Athletic. Parsons is also an expiring contract, which would alleviate some financial pressure the Pistons currently face,
Detroit has been teetering on the precipice of blowing it up as they limped into the new year out of the playoff picture. Moving Drummond would certainly be waiving the white flag for the immediate future.
