The Pistons later announced the hiring.
"Troy is an outstanding executive with an exceptional track record for identifying and developing talent," Pistons' owner Tom Gores said in the team's announcement.
Weaver leaves the Oklahoma City Thunder after 12 years with the franchise. He had served numerous roles with the team, but most recently was their Vice President of Basketball Operations.
"I'm excited for the challenge of building this team into a consistent winner and assembling the pieces to compete at a very high level," Weaver said. "We'll get to work right away, evaluating opportunities and installing systems that will make us all successful."
Weaver will join a front office that is currently headed by senior advisor to Tom Gores, Ed Stefanski. Stefanski has been the shot-caller for the Pistons since joining the franchise in 2018.
