REPORT: Pistons Agree to Contract Extenstion with Bojan Bogdanovic

The Detroit Pistons have agreed to a two-year, $39.1 million contract extension with Bojan Bogdanovic, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported on Sunday afternoon.

The extension will keep Bogdanovic under contract with the Detroit Pistons through the 2024-25 season when the sharpshooting forward will be 35 years old.

Bogdanovic was acquired by Detroit this past offseason in a trade that sent Kelly Olynyk and Saben Lee to the Utah Jazz.

Bogdanovic has averaged a career-high 23 points per game on 51.1% 3-point shooting to go along with 3.5 rebounds and two assists.

The hope was that Detroit would be able to extend Bogdanovic once bringing him in via the trade in September - or be able to move him near the trade deadline for future assets. For a team that has struggled as much as Detroit has to start the 2022-23 campaign, it makes sense for the team to lock up Bogdanovic - who has been one of the few bright spots.

The extension lines up with a vital offseason for Detroit, in which current foundational pieces such as Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart will be restricted free agents. The same can be said for third-year guard Killian Hayes - although his future standing with the team appears a bit murkier than either Bey or Stewart.

Bogdanovic is one of the few veterans on the current Pistons roster - and has paired nicely alongside franchise cornerstone Cade Cunningham. This move signifies Detroit's belief in Bogdanovic, how he fits with the team moving forward, and his ability to help this team win over the next three years.

Bogdanovic and the Pistons will be in action tonight against the Golden State Warriors - as the Pistons look to avoid a 1-6 start to the season.
