Report: Michael Gbinije to Miss Remainder of Summer League
The Detroit Pistons entered the Orlando Summer League with one of the best teams put together. With a mix of talent already on the roster, two rookies, and multiple fringe NBA players, Detroit was bound to be the team to beat in Orlando.
Then, Darrun Hilliard suffered a stress fracture, taking him out of Summer League before it even began. Hilliard was set to be one of Detroit's premier player before the injury.
Today, the Pistons announced that rookie Michael Gbinije will miss the remainder of Summer League. Gbinije suffered a sprained right ankle. Gbinije played well in Detroit's Summer League opener, tallying 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals in the win. He played a team high 32 minutes.
Wichita State guard Tekele Cotton will likely receive most of the minutes that Gbinije would have received. Chavaughen Lewis is the only other shooting guard on the roster. He did not appear in Detroit's Summer League opener, but will likely receive meaningful minutes now.
The Pistons take on the Orlando Magic Blue team today at 3p.m. That Magic team consists of NBA Draft pick Stephen Zimmerman. The Magic are 0-1 in Summer League so far.
