The reasoning for the surgery being delayed has been due to the hope he would be able to return to action, as the initial prognoses of the injury was an ankle sprain.
He played in just eight games this season for Detroit after signing a four-year, $40 million contract two offseasons ago. In his eight appearances, he averaged 5.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in 17 minutes per game.
Assuming surgery goes well, he should likely be back for the start of training camp in September next season.
