REPORT: Jerami Grant Out Indefinitely with Torn Ligaments in Thumb
The Detroit Pistons, mired in an extended losing streak and "boasting" the league's worst record, were dealt another blow Saturday night - this time off the court.
Shams Charania and James Edwards III of The Athletic report that Jerami Grant, the team's leading scorer, suffered several torn ligaments in his right thumb and will be out indefinitely. There is no timetable for Grant's return, though the Pistons are struggling with him on the court anyway.

While the Pistons have not yet provided a formal update on Grant, torn ligaments in a thumb typically require surgery. That does not bode well for a quick recovery.
Despite a poor showing from the team overall so far, Grant has been the safety valve on offense if things start going poorly - which is quite frequently unfortunately. The 27-year-old is averaging 20.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game on 41.4% shooting. This is quite the significant blow for the Pistons, who rely on Grant to keep the otherwise young starting lineup tame. The team is still waiting for Kelly Olynyk to return from an injury of his own, an injury that has sapped the rotation of a capable big - particularly one who can shoot. Now the Pistons will be without their most consistent scoring threat in Grant.
