The Charlotte Hornets are interested in Detroit Pistons' center Andre Drummond, according to Sean Deveney of Heavy.com.
The Hornets, according to Deveney have had interest in Drummond for over a year and plan to pursue him in free agency come July of 2020, when it is expected Drummond will enter the market as an unrestricted free agent and one of the top players on the market.
However, a league source told Deveney that it may be a good idea for the Hornets to try to trade for Drummond now.
“He’ll be a priority there,” one league executive told Heavy.com. “It’s just a matter of whether they make him a priority now and give up something to get him or try to make the move later. It’s a very cautious group, Mitch Kupchak and those guys. But they might want to get this guy into the fold sooner rather than later, there’s just a lot of incentive there on both sides.”
There have been no reports that the Pistons are interested in trading Drummond. Owner Tom Gores has been adamant about Detroit's appreciation and need for Drummond. Drummond, who has been open about his desire to be an unrestricted free agent, has also said he wants to remain in Detroit.
He is averaging 18.6 points, 16.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game this season. He is 26 years old.
