REPORT: Cleveland Cavaliers Could Be Interested in Entering Andre Drummond Sweepstakes
Last Friday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that the Detroit Pistons and Atlanta Hawks had begun discussing a trade centered around Pistons franchise center, Andre Drummond. Other teams, including the Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, and Toronto Raptors also have reportedly shown interest in Drummond.
Then, the Portland Trail Blazers joined the conversation. The Charlotte Hornets followed.
Now, it appears another team has entered the fold.
According to Bobby Marks of ESPN, the Cleveland Cavaliers are deliberating whether they should try to trade for the two-time all-star or not.
The Cavaliers currently have a disgruntled Kevin Love on their roster. Swapping the two wouldn't make much sense. But Cleveland also has Tristian Thompson, who is currently holding down the starting center position and averaging a double-double.
Assets that the franchise possesses include Collin Sexton, Darius Garland, Kevin Porter Jr., and draft picks. It's highly unlikely the Cavs would deal their first-round pick this year or any of their young players outside of Sexton for Drummond.
But that brings the total to seven teams interested in Drummond. The 26-year-old has remained steadfast in his desire to remain a Piston, but it may be time for both sides to move apart.
Drummond will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season if he does not opt-in to a $28 million player option.
The NBA trade deadline is on February 6th.
