According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Boston Celtics are targeting Detroit Pistons forward Jerami Grant as the NBA Trade Deadline nears at the end of the month.
Charania writes in his report:
Among top trade targets for the Celtics: Detroit’s Jerami Grant, sources said. Grant is having a breakout season, averaging 23.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He is a leader for the Most Improved Player of the Year award.
Grant has had a breakout 2020-2021 campaign after signing a three-year contract with Detroit in the summer. The 26-year old forward has averaged 23.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game, while asserting himself as the top player on the Pistons.
He will earn around $20 million annually in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.
The Celtics, who have missed the presence of Gordon Hayward, are in need of more frontcourt talent, and Grant would be a seamless fit ina lineup featuring Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Kemba Walker.
There are no reports to support the idea that Detroit is actively looking to move Grant, who has performed at an all-star level this season, but it would be silly to assume that general manager Troy Weaver won't at least listen to trade suitors.
The NBA Trade Deadline is on March 25th.
