Baynes signed a four-year contract with the Pistons back in 2015, which included a player option after the second year. Last season he averaged 4.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.
Stan Van Gundy said numerous times throughout last offseason and the regular season that Detroit would be unable to afford Baynes if he declined his player option. He also explained that he signed Boban Marjanovic as a replacement for Baynes had he left.
In other words, it is officially Boban Time.
Here is an updated look at Detroit's cap situation.
