REPORT: Andre Drummond Requested Max Contract Extension with Pistons in Offseason, Detroit Offered "Significantly Less"

The list includes the: Charlotte Hornets, New York Knicks, Dallas Mavericks, Toronto Raptors, and Atlanta Hawks. The New York Knicks are the latest team to have reportedly had discussions with the Pistons on the two-time all-star. Detroit also likes Dennis Smith Jr., a fallen top prospect who still provides some intrigue. https://youtu.be/14B-RFqOt4g But Drummond has remained consistent in his desire to remain in Detroit, even if he were to decline his player option for next season and become an unrestricted free agent. He requested an extension with the Pistons in the offseason, and according to Vincent Ellis of the Detroit Free Press, it was for a max contract. The Pistons countered Drummond's request with an offer that Ellis describes as "significantly less." From Ellis' story:
The main issue is Drummond is a traditional center, a position being de-emphasized. There’s a market for his talents, but he requested a contract extension in the offseason, with a max contract price tag. The Pistons countered with an offer that was significantly less. It’s tough to see Drummond landing a max contract this offseason. That creates a reason the Pistons may ultimately deal Drummond for expiring contracts with no asset attached.
Drummond's trade value remains up in the air. He has had a successful season even while his team has struggled mightily, but as of now, it appears the market for him is not looking to provide Detroit with much of a return. This creates a tough situation for the Pistons, one where they may need to hold out as long as they can in hopes a team ups their offer.
