2017 POP Season Review: Reggie Bullock
Entering the 2017 Free Agency period, the Pistons will have to make a final decision on Reggie Bullock. Bullock will be a restricted free agent and could get offered a pricey contract. Detroit has to decide if they want to retain Bullock, and pay him the potentially hefty price he could command, or let him walk and replace the minutes he played with players currently on the roster or bringing in someone to replace him.
Bullock had an up and down year, showing promise at times, but also spent a chunk of the season injured. He started the season inactive, missing the first 12 games of the year. Shortly after returning, he suffered a torn meniscus and then missed another two months.
There are only two stints in the season, January and the five games Detroit played in April, that we got to see what Bullock could contribute.
In the seven games in January that Bullock appeared in, he averaged 6.3 points in 21.6 minutes per game. In those appearances, he did not shoot very efficiently, knocking down just 42.9 percent of his shots and 28.6 percent of his three-point attempts.
Stan Van Gundy gave Bullock a huge opportunity in April. He played 23.8 minutes per game. His playing was very promising, as he averaged 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists in those five appearances. He shot 58.8 percent from the field and 65.2 percent from the three-point line.
While his offensive abilities have been inconsistent, Van Gundy knew he would always get two things from Bullock when he was in the game: energy and defense. His effort and energy, something the Pistons always needed, was crucial.
The Pistons need more shooting, as they were one of the worst three-point shooting teams in the league this season. If Bullock can stay healthy, then he helps address that issue.

If the Pistons can get Bullock back on a fair deal then it would be smart to re-sign him. They have to believe he will stay healthy, and if he can stay healthy then he can contribute for them off the bench. He is a much better option than any backup shooting guard Detroit has on the roster.
Other teams should realize the value Bullock has, and he will likely have multiple lucrative contract offers shortly after free agency begins.
The Pistons got to see what Reggie Bullock could do this season, but his play could lead him to a new team that has the money to afford him.
