Poll: Who should Detroit's Backup Center be Next Season?
The Detroit Pistons are loaded at the center position. Not only do they have one of, if not the best center in the NBA in Andre Drummond, but they also have two very talented backup centers in Aron Baynes and Boban Marjanovic. Baynes signed with the Pistons last offseason after playing with the San Antonio Spurs. This summer Detroit made another signing at center, adding another former San Antonio Spur, in Boban Marjanovic.
With the two now together on the roster a debate has arisen. The debate is who Andre Drummond's backup should be next season. While this will not go into much detail, I'll provide some statistical analysis for you to observe before you vote.
Looking at the stats it does look like Marjanovic is the better player, but the stats do not tell the entire story. Marjanovic played many of his minutes in garbage time. Baynes however was the main backup for Detroit. Baynes has a higher skill level compared to Marjanovic, as Boban's skills need development.
If it were up to me, which it isn't, Detroit's backup center going into the season should be Aron Baynes. That is likely the way Stan Van Gundy is leading as well, as he hinted at Marjanovic being insurance if Baynes was to leave next offseason in free agency.
Now, let's hear what you think. Who should be Detroit's backup center, answer in the poll below. Also, if you feel so inclined, defend your answer in the comment section below. Agree with me, sweet, tell me why you do, disagree, rip me to shreds in the comment section. I want to hear what you think.
