Moreland provided a presence at backup center behind All-Star Andre Drummond this past season, bringing great energy off the bench but failing to do much past that, as the big was a negative on the offensive end and struggled to hold his own against the league's bulkier centers. The franchise is obviously vouching for a 'reliability over potential' outlook when it comes to Dwane Casey's roster, as the Pistons have brought in veterans Jose Calderon and now Zaza Pachulia while cutting ties with younger options in Dwight Buycks and Eric Moreland, an interesting move by a team that failed to make the playoffs last season and making minimal changes this offseason thus far. Moreland averaged just 2.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in his lone season with Detroit, and could potentially get a look from a team starved of center depth, or just a team looking for energy from a third center.
