The Detroit Pistons have signed 6-foot-3 guard Craig Sword to an Exhibit 10 contract, waiving forward Todd Withers in a corresponding move.
Sword played four years at Mississippi State, where he averaged 12.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. The 25-year-old also spent time in Mexican and Polish basketball leagues over the last two seasons alongside playing with the G League's Erie Bayhawks. With the Bayhawks last season, Sword averaged 9.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting 49 percent from the field.
Sword will likely spend all of this season with Detroit's G League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Drive, and will have a chance to claim starting guard duties.
Withers averaged 6.9 points and 5.5 rebounds for the Drive last season and participated in one of the Pistons' five preseason games this year.
