Pistons Sign Carsen Edwards, Agree to Two-Way Contract with Braxton Key

The Detroit Pistons made a trio of roster moves on Sunday afternoon, beginning with the announcement that the organization had agreed to a contract with guard Carsen Edwards. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that the contract was a two-year deal.

Edwards played this season with the Salt Lake City Stars, the NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz. He was one of the most prolific scorers in the G League, averaging 26.7 points per game, second in the league. Best known for his ability as a shooter, Edwards shot 38.3% from the 3-point line, connecting on 3.2 makes from beyond the arc per game.

This signing came at the end of Braxton Key's 10-day contract with the Pistons, which opened up a roster spot on Detroit's roster. However, the Pistons also announced that they had agreed to a two-way contract with Key, keeping the 25-year-old forward with the franchise. Key averaged 6.8 points and 5.2 rebounds in six appearances with Detroit.

To make room for Key's two-way contract, the team waived rookie forward Chris Smith, who underwent surgery on his left knee last week and was slated to miss the remainder of the season. Jamorko Pickett is Detroit's other two-way player under contract.

Edwards and Key both played for the Pistons on Sunday night. Edwards scored 13 points on 5-15 shooting and dished out nine assists in 31 minutes off the bench. Key added 12 points, nine rebounds, and three steals in the win over Indiana.

The Pistons, 23-56, have just three games remaining on their schedule. They will wrap up the season next Sunday against the Philadelphia 76ers.
