Pistons Notes: Henry Ellenson and Luke Kennard to Play with the Grand Rapids Drive Today

The Detroit Pistons won their seventh game of the season last night when they took down the Sacramento Kings, 108-99. After the game, Stan Van Gundy announced that Detroit's 2016 first round pick, Henry Ellenson, and their 2017 first round pick, Luke Kennard, will both play with the Grand Rapids Drive today.

Ellenson has appeared in five of Detroit's ten games so far this season. He is averaging six points and three rebounds in 12.6 minutes per game. Ellenson has been inconsistent at times, as he had good performances against the Charlotte Hornets and Minnesota Timberwolves, but was then nonexistent when he appeared against the Los Angeles Clippers or Lakers.

Van Gundy has opted for both Jon Leuer and Anthony Tolliver to play the backup power forward minutes ahead of him, and Ellenson does not have the strength or quickness to play minutes at center yet.

Luke Kennard did play in the second half of the Pistons' win yesterday, his fifth appearance of the season. He shot just 1-4 from the field, but had a nice play in transition for an assist. He finished the game with two points and two assists.

On the season, Kennard is averaging 4.2 points on just 40.9 percent shooting from the field and 12.5 percent shooting from the 3-point line.

The Drive are 1-0 on the season, as they beat the Erie Bayhawks at the buzzer on Friday night. Derek Willis, who went to training camp with the Pistons, scored the game-winning basket at the buzzer. Dwight Buycks, one of Detroit's two-way players with the Drive, scored 21 points and had 12 rebounds in the win. Luis Montero, the other two-way player, added 14 points and 11 boards.
