Last season with the Blue Devils, Kennard averaged 19.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. He shot 43.8 percent from the three-point line. He is known for his shooting, which will help Detroit, who was 27th in the league in three-point shooting percentage last season.
The Pistons selected Kennard after Malik Monk slipped all the way to Charlotte, who had the 11th pick in the draft. Louisville guard Donovan Mitchell was still on the board.
The last Blue Devil Detroit took in the first round of the NBA Draft was Grant Hill in 1994.
