Game Recap: Pistons Show Fight But Can't Outlast Spurs

The Pistons gave it all they had but were ultimately unable to stop the San Antonio Spurs tonight, losing 96-86. The Pistons are now 4-5 on the season, and are yet to earn a win on the road. The Spurs are now 6-3.

It was a fantastic game for the Spurs, although the Pistons had their best defensive performance on the road this season. The Spurs shot 44.4% from the field,45% from the three-point line, and 78% from the free throw line. Detroit continues to struggle shooting the ball efficiently on the road as they shot 42.1% from the field, 20% from three, and 81% from the charity stripe. The Spurs won the rebound battle 45-42.The Spurs had 24 assists in the game while the Pistons only had 14. Detroit also turned the ball over 11 times while the Spurs turned the ball over only eight times.

Pau Gasol posted his best performance of the year for San Antonio. He had 21 points and nine rebounds in the game. 13 of his 21 points came in the first quarter. Kawhi Leonard finished with 17 points and four rebounds. LaMarcus Aldridge had 14 points and 12 boards. Patty Mills and Manu Ginobili each had 10 points off the bench.

Andre Drummond led the way for the Pistons. He nearly recorded his second 20-20 game of the season, finishing the game with 20 points and 17 rebounds. Drummond was 3-3 from the line tonight and is shooting 55% from the free throw line on the season. He did, however, have six turnovers. Those turnovers do not matter, though because he did this:

Tobias Harris and Ish Smith each had 12 points. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 10. Marcus Morris had another rough game, shooting 2-11 from the field for four points. Jon Leuer scored eight points and grabbed three rebounds off the bench. Beno Udrih had 12 points.

The Spurs biggest lead of the game was 13 points, while Detroit's was only six. The Pistons were never able to pull away. The Spurs used a 26-15 third quarter advantage to gain control of the game.
