Game Recap: Pistons’ Defense Collapses in Loss to Celtics
The Detroit Pistons fell to the Boston Celtics 110-98 tonight, in both teams' first games after the All-Star break.
The Pistons were out to a great start, looking reenergized and rested after a week-long break. However, a huge second quarter from Boston made the rest of the contest an uphill battle for the Pistons, who continue to be mediocre on both sides of the ball. Ish Smith had one of his best games of the season, finishing with 20 points on nine of 11 shooting and fished out six assists. Andre Drummond feasted in the Celtics as usual, with 15 points and 17 rebounds. The rest of the team left a lot to be desired, as Blake Griffin continues to struggle mightily in an offensive system that doesn't cater to his strengths, while Reggie Bullock had a rare off night. The bench struggled as well, as the offense went cold when the starters were off the court.
After a slow start, the Boston Celtics rebounded nicely and showed why they are one of the premier teams in the league. It was the Daniel Theis show, as he finished with 19 points and 7 rebounds, leading the team in scoring. Kyrie Irving did modest damage with 18 points, but overall it was a team effort for a Celtics team that lives off ball movement and great defense.
The Pistons fall to 28-30 and will take on the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday. The Celtics improve to 41-19 and play the New York Knicks tomorrow night.
