Game Recap: Ellenson, Kennard Impress as Pistons Fall to Thunder

The Detroit Pistons(0-1) fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder(1-0) today in Day One of the Orlando Summer League, 92-91. Detroit was up in the game until late when the referees made a controversial call, which they later admitted was the wrong one, according to Rick Kamla, the Play by Play Announcer for the game on NBATV.

One official called a common foul giving the Thunder two shots and the ball, instead of one free throw and the ball. After the free throws, the Thunder took a 92-91 lead and held on for the win.

Bob Meyers, the Head Coach of the Pistons Summer League squad was miffed at the situation.

The game was most definitely an exciting one, and Detroit was able to get a good look at last year's draft picks, Henry Ellenson and Michael Gbinije, as well as this year's pick, Luke Kennard.

Tobias Harris and Stanley Johnson were in attendance in Orlando supporting the team.

Ellenson looked great straight from the tip. He scored 12 points in the first quarter, alone, while finishing with 21 points and nine rebounds. He showed a great three-point shooting touched, and awed those watching with his outstanding post fadeaway.

The shot above was the shot of the game. Ellenson was just inside the three-point line, defended tightly, and had the shot clock winding down, yet he was still able to knock down the shot.

Michael Gbinije knocked down a couple of threes early on but finished with just seven points on 2-8 shooting. Pierre Jackson, who started the game at point guard for Detroit, finished with 13 points and three assists.

Lorenzo Brown, a standout from last year's Summer League team was at it again. He scored 10 points off the bench, two in which came off a very nice finish at the rim.

Eric Moreland impressed me the most out of all the players Detroit brought to Orlando that are currently not on their NBA roster. He notvhed a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. He also had four blocked shots, including the one in the video below.

Luke Kennard wowed those watching with his shooting ability, as he scored 16 points while shooting 4-6 from deep.

Vincent Hunter scored 21 points for Oklahoma City in the win.

The Pistons play tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. et against the New York Knicks. The game will be broadcast live on NBATV.
