3 Free Agents the Detroit Pistons Should Consider for Their Final Roster Spot
Will the Pistons make a move before the season starts? These three available players — including a familiar name — could be on their radar.
With just over a month remaining until NBA training camp begins, the Detroit Pistons still have one open roster spot to fill.
Earlier this week, the team filled its 14th roster spot by signing Javonte Green, a 6’5” wing who spent last season with the New Orleans Pelicans and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Now, Detroit could choose to leave the final spot open heading into the season. Doing so would give the team flexibility to take back two contracts in a potential mid-season trade. The Pistons have frequently been mentioned as a team to watch on the trade market, and leaving this spot vacant would only reinforce the belief that a deal could be on the horizon.
Still, if the Pistons decide to fill that 15th slot before the 2025-26 season tips off, here are three names they should consider:
Amir Coffey
It’s surprising that Amir Coffey remains unsigned this deep into August. He averaged nearly 10 points per game last season for a solid Clippers team, while shooting over 40% from three.
Coffey is a 6’7” wing who can slide between the 2, 3, and 4 spots. He just turned 28 and brings a well-rounded skillset along with playoff experience — something Detroit could benefit from. While he may not address the Pistons’ most immediate positional needs (point guard or power forward), he’d be a strong value pickup and a solid depth piece.
Given his availability, Coffey should be attainable on a team-friendly deal, and frankly, he’s one of the best remaining unrestricted free agents on the market.

Delano Banton
If the Pistons are leaning toward adding another point guard, Delano Banton deserves a long look.
After being traded to the Trail Blazers midseason last year, Banton finally got consistent NBA minutes and proved he belongs in a rotation. The 25-year-old averaged 8.3 points and 2.4 assists in 16.7 minutes per game across a career-high 67 appearances.
One knock on Banton is his three-point shot. He hit a career-best 32.4% from deep last season — still below league average — but his shooting has improved year over year, suggesting there’s room for continued growth.
Banton’s size, energy, and versatility could make him an intriguing addition to Detroit’s backcourt.
Malik Beasley
Could Malik Beasley find his way back to the Pistons? It’s a reunion plenty of fans are hoping for.
Beasley, 28, was reportedly set to sign a lucrative three-year extension with Detroit in July before gambling allegations surfaced, leading to a federal investigation.
Since then, Beasley has been vocal online about his intention to return to the NBA, and specifically, his desire to rejoin the Pistons. He’s been spotted wearing Pistons gear throughout the offseason and has stayed active on social media, interacting with several current players.
There’s still uncertainty around the gambling accusations, but if his name is cleared, Detroit should absolutely consider bringing him back.
Most teams have exhausted their cap space by this point in the offseason, meaning any suitors for Beasley would have limited flexibility. Returning to Detroit, where he became a fan favorite and posted the best numbers of his career, makes a lot of sense — if the situation allows for it.
