Big Man Rotation, Jersey Leak, and Woj Retired | The Weekly Drive
We previewed the Pistons' bigs, Detroit's new City jerseys leaked, and the NBA's premier reporter is hanging it up.
Good morning Pistons fans, and welcome back to the Weekly Drive. Media Day is in one week, training camp is right around the corner, and the first preseason game is just two weeks away. If you haven’t buckled up, there is still time.
Position Overview: Bigs
The NBA’s watering down of positions has pushed everyone to either “guard”, “wing”, or “big”, and we have followed that with our preview content. Today, we are starting with the bigs. Our own Dylan Edenfield, who has been making our graphics for years, broke down the bigs on the roster and where they stand heading into training camp.
City Jerseys
The NBA’s City jerseys appeared to have leaked online in what has become a social media punching bag. There are some decent ones (Toronto, Utah, Cleveland) and then there are some…let’s say not-so-good ones. Here is the rumored jersey for the Pistons:
Well, what do you think? Let us know in the comments.
Personally, I like the jerseys. It looks a lot like Cade Cunningham’s Oklahoma State Cowboys jersey, perhaps a stipulation in the max contract he signed this summer. I want to see how the shorts look with it, but the jersey itself looks solid - especially when compared to some of the other leaked ones across the league.
Last season, the City jerseys were pulled out of the closet only for the In-Season Tournament games. One would assume that that will be the case again. Just as a reminder, the Pistons In-Season Tournament games are November 12th against Miami (a home game), November 15th against Toronto (on the road), November 29th against Indiana (a home game), and December 3rd against Milwaukee (a road game).
News and Notes
The Pistons have reportedly signed Devon Higgs, Tolu Smith, and Sam Peek to training camp deals according to Spotrac’s Keith Smith...
…and then they promptly waived Peek and Higgs eight hours later and signed Javante McCoy to an Exhibit 10 deal according to Mike Scotto of HoopsHype.
Detroit announced that Melanie Harris has been named the organization’s President of Business Operations. Ms. Harris was most recently with Nike, serving as Vice President and General Manager of Jordan Brand.
In NBA news, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski announced on X his official retirement from the Worldwide Leader in Sports. “Woj” will be taking on the role of General Manager with his alma mater St. Bonaventure Bonnies, a unique position for someone with such strong NBA ties.
What are you looking out for this preseason? Which position battles intrigue you the most? Let us know and maybe we will talk about it on the podcast this week. Thanks for reading.
